www.nacmem.orgJob Summary: Performs a full range of clinical laboratory tests across multiple disciplines, including hematology, chemistry, immunology, blood bank, microbiology, and coagulation. Responsibilities include performing analytical testing, supporting clinical decision-making, managing laboratory information, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The position also involves participation in education, training, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives to maintain high standards of laboratory practice and patient care.
Key Responsibilities: - Performs a full range of clinical laboratory tests in hematology, chemistry, immunology, blood bank, microbiology, and coagulation.
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques, principles, and instrumentation.
- Follows established laboratory protocols and seeks assistance when necessary.
- Ensures all testing is performed in compliance with CLIA, TJC, and other applicable regulatory standards.
- Performs pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic activities, ensuring specimen integrity and accuracy of results.
- Accurately performs and reports patient and proficiency testing results within defined turnaround times.
- Reviews and validates quality control (QC) results prior to releasing patient results; identifies and resolves QC or instrument issues.
- Performs routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting; documents problems and corrective actions.
- Ensures all critical and abnormal results are communicated promptly and documented appropriately
- Completes required orientation, competency assessments, and ongoing training per CLIA and laboratory policy.
- Demonstrates understanding of and adherence to laboratory safety and infection control procedures.
- Orients and trains new laboratory personnel and students.
- Participates in continuing education to maintain or expand competency, including training on new tests, methods, or instrumentation
- Effectively communicates with supervisors, pathologists, and clinical staff regarding test results, specimen issues, and instrument performance.
Qualifications Required:Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English required
Required: Associates of Applied Science orBachelor's degree in related fields in biological sciences, chemistry, clinical laboratory science, or allied health technologies
ANDgraduation from a Medical Technology/MLT program approved by a nationally recognized body.
Preferred:Registry from either American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
