Position Purpose:
The Admissions clerks greet patients, inquire about medical aliments, confirm prescheduled procedures, gathers/interviews incoming patients prior to admission, collects insurance, emergency information, and other data required to bring the patient into the hospital system.
Job Description:
* Admit patients promptly (within 5-8 minutes for inpatients/day surgery, 5 minutes for ER)
* Verify insurance and obtain pre-certification within 24 hours of admission
* Collect required signatures for treatment, insurance, and other forms with proper ID
* Assign patient rooms and explain hospital pre-payment policies
* Assist patients in understanding insurance benefits; refer uninsured patients to Credit Counselors
* Confirm and update patient personal and insurance information, including emergency contacts
* Collect payments, deductibles, and coinsurance at the time of service
* Input patient data accurately and promptly into the Hospital Information System (HIS)
* Prepare and apply patient identification wristbands
* Arrange patient escorts to rooms when applicable
* Handle difficult situations with care and professionalism
* Provide courteous, accurate, and timely support to internal departments regarding billing and account information
* Respond promptly to requests from managers, insurance companies, Medicare, and financial agencies
Qualifications
Preferred: Prior experience handling cash
Required: Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English required.
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
