Position Title: Culinary Support SpecialistDepartment: The Gathering PlaceReports to: Program Manager of The Gathering PlaceSchedule: M-FKEY FUNCTIONS* Plan, organize, and facilitate daily culinary instruction, including meal preparation, menu planning, and nutrition education.* Teach andmodel essential cooking skills, proper food handling, safety, and sanitation practices.* Engage members in all aspects of kitchen operations, including grocery shopping, budgeting, serving, and cleanup.* Promote teamwork, confidence, and interpersonal skills through shared cooking and dining experiences.* Provide guidance and individualized support that encourages independence and vocational readiness. Assisting members to obtain food handlers certifications.* Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation standards, including adherence to local food service regulations.* Collaborate with staff to integrate culinary activities into members' rehabilitation and recovery goals.* Maintain food inventory, order supplies, and manage kitchen budget responsibly.* Document participation, progress, and outcomes in coordination with the treatment orrecovery team.* Support clubhouse events, community meals, and special programming related to wellness and nutrition.* Assist as a Support Specialist when needed, providing general assistance, member engagement, and program support throughout other clubhouse areas.Education/License/Certification Requirements:* Certificate or Degree/Diploma in culinary arts required. Culinary certificate, diploma, or equivalent experience in a professional kitchen, food service, or culinary instruction setting required.* Current Food Manager's Certification (SERV Safe or equivalent) required.* Bachelor's degree in the mental health field. Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, psychology, or related field preferred - OR equivalent experience working with individuals with mental health challenges* CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).* License to operate a motor vehicle in the state of TexasExperience:* Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures.* Background in psychosocial rehabilitation or clubhouse programs required.* At least one year of experience in culinary instruction or food service (mental health or social services preferred)* Experience working with adults diagnosed with mental illness or other mental health challenges in a teaching, support or rehabilitation setting* Strong communication, organization and teamwork skills* Commitment to promoting recovery and inclusion.* Demonstrated ability to create a supportive, recovery-oriented learning environment* Compassionate, patient, and recovery-oriented approach to working with others.* Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
