Title: Trimmer/Climber Trainee
Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Reports to: Foreperson/General Foreperson

Essential Functions:

• Engage in tree trimming and removal using ladders, safety belts, climbing lines, powered trimmer lift trucks, or workingfrom the ground with saws and pruners. Cut branches or trunk sections safely and lower them to the ground using lines.
• Utilize appropriate tools for felling trees, trimming trunks, and splitting them into manageable pieces.
• Apply herbicides to stumps and brush to prevent regrowth using hand-spraying equipment.
• Load and unload logs, stumps, brush, and debris from trucks, and operate wood chippers safely.
• Repair minor damages to lawns, fences, and walkways caused during tree trimming operations.
• Relay hand signals, direct traffic, and ensure trucks and work areas are organized and safe.
• Train new staff on best practices and company procedures.
• Follow safety protocols to protect employees and the public, including setting up warning signs and barriers, and cooperating with local authorities during operations.
• Inspect tools, trucks, and equipment for proper working conditions, and report the need for repairs or replacements.
• Work safely around hazardous equipment and energized power lines.
• Adapt to variable weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and exposure to nature.
• Navigate rough terrain as necessary.
• Promote safe work practices among crew members.
• Perform basic maintenance on trucks, chippers, and equipment, maintaining cleanliness and mechanical order.
• Carry out additional related tasks as required.

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 months of experience on tree trimming or clearing crews, or completion of relevant performance reviews.
• Strong commitment to enforcing workplace safety practices.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Capable of entering and exiting a vehicle multiple times daily.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions including rain, heat, snow, and cold.
• Must be able to read, write, and understand verbal and written instructions.
• Excellent communication skills to represent the company professionally.
• Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently.
• Willingness to work long hours and weekends, including emergencies and on-call shifts.
• Competence in using and maintaining all required tools and equipment.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Possess the necessary herbicide applicator or operator certification as mandated by local, state, and federal laws.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Ability to succeed in Climber Trainee Performance Review.
