Lumber Operator Apprentice

Description:

Join West Fraser in a rewarding entry-level role at our Henderson sawmill! We are looking for self-motivated individuals ready to start their journey in a dynamic work environment and advance into skilled positions. This role allows for ample training, and you will have the chance to cross-train in various departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform essential lumberyard tasks and housekeeping duties such as shoveling, ground keeping, painting, and janitorial work.
  • Stack various lengths of lumber efficiently.
  • Work assigned tasks both indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Monitor the movement of lumber and assist in preventing mix-ups.
  • Clear jammed lumber and assist team members as needed.
  • Conduct quality checks and safety observations.
  • Adhere to all Safe Work Procedures and Zero Energy State protocols.
  • Utilize downtime to enhance department appearance and productivity.
  • Efficiently complete job assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Operate necessary equipment according to established procedures.
  • Visually monitor the assigned area and using screen monitors.
  • Inspect, maintain, and perform minor repairs on equipment as needed.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on assigned machines.
  • Document and report any findings during inspections.
  • Ensure the assigned area and equipment are clean and well-maintained.

Qualifications for Success:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Excellent safety record and commitment to safety standards.
  • Willingness to work any shift and maintain good attendance.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and maintenance skills.
  • Able to troubleshoot problems within the department.
  • Capability to perform quality control checks and maintain cleanliness standards.
  • Willingness to learn basic computer skills and train others in the department.

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum of six (6) months in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
