Overview:

We are looking for a Data Protection Solutions Engineer to join our team as we continue to transform and evolve our data resilience framework. You will be joining a collaborative group of engineers who have already developed a heavily automated data protection capability; your goal will be to help us mature this ecosystem even further, moving toward a fully orchestrated, self-service model. In this "Build & Run" role, you will bridge the gap between advanced architecture and seamless execution. You will collaborate across teams to evolve our hybrid data protection and storage capabilities leveraging CI/CD pipelines and API-driven workflows while remaining hands-on with the daily operational lifecycle. Anchored in our established Rubrik Security Cloud ecosystem you will ensure our resilient systems scale reliably while maintaining high-performance standards for daily backup, recovery, and incident response.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Automate backup, restore, and disaster recovery operations to improve operational efficiency and reliability across hybrid environments
• Lead infrastructure as code and continuous delivery efforts using CI/CD pipelines for cloud and on premises platforms
• Evaluate new software and hardware technologies to improve current methodologies (resilience, security posture, cost, performance, automation maturity)
• Design, build, and operationalize Azure capabilities including Azure Storage, Azure Backup, Azure migrations, and Azure solutioning aligned to enterprise standards
• Deliver data protection architecture and implementations using modern platforms (for example Rubrik Security Cloud) with clear RPO, RTO, retention, immutability, and recovery validation
• Advise internal customers on solutions that meet technical, business, risk, and compliance requirements (including data residency and regulatory constraints)
• Interface with customers, vendors, and technical teams to translate storage and data protection requirements into actionable designs, runbooks, and operational controls
• Own the operational lifecycle for backup and protection services, including onboarding, policy governance, monitoring, alerting, incident response, and continuous improvement
• Proactively identify trends, perform root cause analysis, isolate issues, and drive adverse events from identification through resolution with measurable outcomes
• Contribute to enterprise documentation and transparency, including architecture diagrams, service offerings, standards, operational procedures, and post incident learnings
• Collaborate across teams to share knowledge, document standards, and ensure transparent execution through regular updates, runbooks, and knowledge transfers

Education and Experience Required:

Combined minimum of 8 years' higher education and/or work experience in systems design, management and/or architecture

Strong understanding of the system development and infrastructure lifecycle and architecture, vendor best practices, IT Service Management, and systems design

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Advanced knowledge of data protection appliances or software, including policy design, retention, immutability, encryption, recovery testing, and operational governance
• Knowledgeable in VMware platform, virtualizing Windows and Linux operating systems, and SQL and Oracle databases in the context of protection and recovery operations
• Strong automation experience using PowerShell as the primary scripting language (Python acceptable) as well as REST API's to automate backup, recovery, reporting, and operational workflows
• Working knowledge of infrastructure as code, configuration management, and CI/CD delivery practices in regulated enterprise environments
• Experience with Rubrik Security Cloud, Azure, and Pure Storage
• Experience operating and scaling SaaS and cloud integrated protection services, including Microsoft 365, Entra, and cloud workload protection
• Strong automation and platform integration experience using PowerShell and Python utilizing both REST and GraphQL API interfaces
• Experience using Terraform for Azure provisioning and policy driven deployments, plus Ansible for configuration management and repeatable operations
• Proficiency with pertinent project management, word processing, and spreadsheet applications
• Capable of working on multiple complex projects, including migrations, system enhancements, conversions, and production problem resolution

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $116,400.00 - $194,000.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
